Sexual violence towards women is prevalent throughout history. Despite all the social progress accomplished globally, violence and legal control over women's bodies continue today, which has prompted large movements like Times Up, Me Too, and the Women's March.  In conjunction with the rise of these marches, specific apparel such as the pink pussy hat and black hoodie, have also become symbols of unity.

The Little Black Belt is the symbol against sexual violence. The belt's design is a play on the chastity belt mashed up with the legend of vagina dentata (vagina teeth). Both visual symbols have long-standing histories, and their ideas are deeply rooted in religious and cultural beliefs about women's bodies. One represents the oppression and dominance, while the other represents the strength and protest against rape. The L.B.Belt empowers the wearer with the sense of ownership over their body. While also serving as a public message of unity against sexual violence towards any bodies.
