HA   LONG DISHWARE

I was drawn to dim sum cuisine because it's a perfect meal to bond over since everyone shares the same dishes. In my research, I found a Chinese, fusion restaurant in Midtown, Florida called Black Brick. The restaurant reminded me of Hong Kong which is famous for its dim sum and its "fusion" identity as both Chinese and British.

Base on those inspirations, I wanted the pieces in my dim sum dining collection to have the elements of Hong Kong's history as an international port, duality, and connectivity.

When designing the plates, I wanted small dishes that tessellate into the large main dish for the many side dishes and different sauces. The bowls have a curved pattern in black and white, to mimic the eye graphics on the table. And when stacked, they create a dynamic visual. The chopsticks are purposely two colors so you can mix and match them, and they all hang neatly on a metal rack for tidiness. For the lights, I wanted larger and brighter lighting because a majority of the yelp photos were very dark which indicated low lighting. The spoon is a deeper than the regular soup spoon so it can hold a whole soup dumpling. As for lighting, I designed the light cover to look similar to a pagoda roof and I switch to LED lights for efficiency.

MATERIALS: cherry wood (chopsticks), ceramic clay (dishes), LED light sphere, MDF wood, HDPE
